Retail, finance, pharmacy, hospitality, business, tourism… what industry doesn’t have customers? Good customer service and communication skills are highly valued by employers in many different industries and areas of work. This skill set will get you job ready with the exact skills you need.


Course Content

You will learn how to communicate effectively and provide quality service to both internal and external customers and deal effectively with people from a range of social and cultural groups with respect and sensitivity. You’ll also gain negotiation, conflict management and problem-solving skills.

Additionally, you’ll learn how to follow infection prevention and control policies and procedures, implement standard and transmission-based precautions and respond to infection risks in the workplace within a customer service context.

Completing this free skill set will be recognised by a Statement of Attainment for the following nationally accredited units of competency:

  • SITXCCS006 Provide service to customers
  • SITXCOM002 Show social and cultural sensitivity
  • HLTINFCOV001 Comply with infection prevention and control policies and procedures


Course Delivery

Delivery options:

  • Face-to-face training at our Mandurah training centre
  • Virtual classroom training using Microsoft Teams
  • Online
  • Workplace


HLTINFCOV001 is delivered online with a workplace assessment component.

Delivery includes:

  • 6 week course
  • 3 hours per week of face-to-face or virtual classroom training
  • Access to our online learning portal where you can complete learning and assessment in your own time
  • Industry expert trainer/assessor support
  • Recognition of prior learning (RPL) options available


Course Duration

6 – 12 weeks.

Completion of this course depends on each individual student and when all assessments are successfully completed.



This course is free to eligible students through Jobs and Skills WA Lower fees, local skills initiative. All fees are 100% subsidised by the WA State Government, through Jobs and Skills WA, so that there is no cost to you. For more information visit Job and Skills WA.

Students who do not meet one or more of the criteria listed above are able to enrol in the skill sets and pay the applicable course and resource fees in accordance with the Department of Training and Workforce Development’s current Fees and Charges Policy, available at dtwd.wa.gov.au.
