This skill set will allow you to upskill in organisational infection prevention and control policies and procedures. It is suitable for people who require the skills and knowledge to decrease the risk and transmission of infection, whilst carrying out your daily duties.

These skills and knowledge can be applied to specific healthcare industry needs such as direct client care, community care, community services, in-home care, disability care and other work environments where you provide support and care to individuals or groups of people.

Course Content

This skill set includes the following unit of competency:
• HLTINF001 Comply with infection prevention and control policies and procedures

You will learn:
Introduction to infection control
Chain of infection and disease transmission
Breaking the chain of infection
Contamination and cleaning
Hazards, risks, responsibilities and reporting

Delivery Methods

Delivery includes:
 1 day face-to-face workshop
Virtual classroom training and support as required
Online learning and assessment
Workplace assessment

Delivery can be customised for groups.

Course Duration

12 – 25 hours of learning and assessment.

Course duration is 1 – 3 months depending on each individual student and when they complete all assessments successfully.

Course Fees

This course is free under the Jobs and Skills WA Skills Ready initiative. All fees are 100% subsidised by the WA State Government so that there is no cost to you. Fees apply for non-eligible students.


The Student tuition fees are indicative only and are subject to change given individual circumstances at enrolment. Additional fees may apply such as Student service and resource fees.

Funding Eligibility

Who is eligible
All residents in Western Australia over the age of 15 years old.

This includes temporary residents holding one of the following visa types:
 Holders of a sub-class 309, 444, 785, 790, 820 or 826 visa
 Secondary holders of a temporary visa of sub-class 457
 Holders of a Bridging Visa E (subclasses 050 and 051) where the visa holder has made a valid application for a visa of subclass 785 or 790

Who is not eligible
Persons living outside of Western Australia, or Australia
International students and people on a student visa
Students who are still at school

Entry Requirements

You must have current employment in, or access to, a healthcare workplace to complete your assessment.

You need a computer and internet to complete the online component of this course.

Course Recognition

Completing this skill set will be recognised by a Statement of Attainment for the nationally recognised unit of competency:
HLTINF001 Comply with infection prevention and control policies and procedures
